The Tvan Tropical Roof is designed to create an air gap between the top of the canvas tent roof and the Tropical Roof allowing air to flow between the two surfaces keeping the inside of the canvas tent cooler than if left in direct sunlight. The Tropical Roof really comes into its own when used on hot sunny days that can be experienced all year round in the north of the country and during the summer months in the southern states.
The Tropical Roof is also made of a finer woven fabric that is less porous than the standard catch net providing greater protection from bird and bat droppings and proving easier to clean when it is in need of a good wash.
Tvan users have also commented on using the Tropical Roof in colder weather claiming it keeps the chill of frosty mornings and the occasional snowfall away from direct contact with the canvas tent roof that appears to keep the inside of the canvas tent slightly warmer.
The Tropical Roof is easy to retrofit to existing Tvans that rely on the standard catch net with two metal fittings that need to be installed on the leading edge of the fiberglass hatch. Once in place, these fittings along with the Tropical Roof replace the catch net when folding away the rear canvas tent.
